The Beginning of Our Algarve Story
This is genuinely our very first publication, which is why writing the opening post is perhaps the most difficult task. There are always so many things to say, but the hardest part is simply getting started. Let’s start at the beginning!
Therefore, let us begin at the very beginning, and we want to thank you warmly for visiting our page. On this platform, we are delighted to showcase our local accommodations, because we love hosting guests at Bambus House Blue and Bambus House Green. A Precious Plot of Land
Today, we will start at the beginning with the origins of our story, which goes back to the middle of September in the summer of 1986. Whilst visiting family in Quarteira, we became interested in a plot of land, as it was for sale across the street and filled with pines. The ultimate goal was to build a lovely family holiday home.
To call the area a street back then is a massive exaggeration, because this was nothing more than a rough path covered with small stones. The previous owner simply cleared it through the pine forest, so it was not a proper road. Consequently, it was only after a few years that the Parish Council negotiated the paving with the residents.
First Vacation in 1987
Once the deal was done, the projects were carefully designed. Following the approval of the city council licences, work finally began in the first months of 1987.
By that August, the house was still under construction. Nevertheless, we managed to use one room and the kitchen to spend a month on vacation, although the conditions were basic. This was possible despite the basic conditions and the ongoing work.
On the 16th of that month, the water borehole was drilled. This hole successfully provided the water supply to our house, while it also served some family members and neighbours for several years. Mains water and basic sanitation did not exist yet.
In short, it took many years and immense effort to convince the City Council, because these basic priorities needed urgent resolving. Thus, it was necessary for all local residents to unite, so they organised themselves and pressured the Municipality until it finally proceeded with the work.
Turning a Holiday Home into Permanent Housing
Construction progressed steadily over time, but it was only at the beginning of 1988 that the house became fully inhabited. Some external works still continued a little later, though. Finally, what was originally intended as a holiday home turned into permanent housing for 20 years.
We should mention an interesting detail about our neighbourhood, since almost all of the neighbours who bought the lots across the street are actually part of our family.
The Start of a Beautiful Adventure
And this was the true beginning of our Algarve adventure. Life is a succession of small episodes, so none of us knows the long-term importance of a single decision.
Many things happened from that point onwards, but the truth is that today we possess two magnificent local accommodations. Bambus House Blue and Bambus House Green offer excellent conditions, so both are ready to welcome you for a memorable vacation.
